Mini Tennis Match
Baston Juniors played in a Mini Tennis Red match against Farringtons on Thursday 22 November. The Farringtons Team was made up of Year 3 pupils including several boys! Our team was depleted due to illness so we had several Year 2 pupils and even two Year 1 pupils playing with our Year 3 girls. The matches were close and Baston ran out the winners by 14 matches to 11.
KENT CHAMPIONS
Living up to the title of Kent Tennis School of the Year Baston School won the British Schools' Kent Mini Tennis Red Team Tournament held at the Bromley Tennis Centre on Wednesday 23 May 2007.
The Baston Teams with the winning team holding their certificates
The annual Mini Tennis Red Team Event was as popular as ever with nineteen teams from all over Kent taking part. Other schools taking part included Bromley High, Coombe Bank, Derwent Lodge, Hilden Oaks, Russell House, Holy Trinity Sidcup, Walthamstow Hall and St Katherine's.
Both the Baston 1st and 2nd teams won all their group matches and progressed to the semi-finals. The first team met Bromley High in the semi-final and easily reached the final with convincing wins in all four singles matches, thus rendering the doubles matches unnecessary. They very nearly met our 2nd team in the final but the 2nd team just lost to Derwent Lodge in a very close and exciting match, only decided on the very last sudden death point of the concluding doubles rubber.
In the Final against Derwent Lodge the Baston 1st team once again won all their singles matches comfortably and, leaving the doubles un-played as they could not effect the result, became the Kent Schools Team Champions.
Congratulations to the winning team of Bethany, Alannah, Paige and Amber. Throughout the whole tournament not one of them lost a match, either singles or doubles making them highly deserving County Champions.
KENT FINALISTS
It was the turn of Years 4, 5 and 6 to play in the British Schools’ Kent Mini Tennis Team Tournament on Wednesday 13 June. In the morning Baston had 3 teams playing in the Orange event in which there were 19 teams from schools all over Kent. All three teams played a very high standard of tennis and every girl won at least one match. Baston 2nd team came 2nd in their group missing a place in the Semi finals by 1 point! The 1st team won their group and then played a knockout match to gain a place in the Semi Finals. Here they met and beat Bromley High 2nd team and to book themselves a place in the Final where they played Bromley High 1st team! The match was close but Baston finished as runners up. The finalists Alexandra, Georgia, Annabelle and Victoria are pictured above with their certificates. In the afternoon in the Green Tournament we entered one team who all played very well and finished 2nd in their group, only just missing a place in the Semi-Finals. Pictured below are the team members with their certificates; Molly Grace Lydia and Victoria.

SPORTS DAY Wednesday 4 & Thursday 5 July
Having postponed our Sports Day on Saturday 30 June due to bad and wet weather the Junior & Senior Sports was held on Wednesday 4 July. In spite of three interruptions due to rain all the events were successfully completed and the winning houses were Pitt in the Seniors and Wilberforce in the Juniors.
Start of a Seniors 100m race
The Early Years Sports was held on Thursday 5 July and thankfully we at last had a dry day. Our youngest girls performed in a very professional way and produced many exciting races for the watching parents.
