Music at Baston

The Music Wing consists of 3 practice rooms (furnished with pianos) and a large, well-equipped class teaching room which also functions as a Recital Room for many Performing Arts activities.

Music is part of the common core curriculum from Foundation Stage to Key Stage 3 and is an option subject for GCSE.  At all levels it is taught by a music specialist.  During class music lessons pupils are taught the skills necessary to access the National Curriculum areas of Performing, Listening and Composing.

Music plays a significant part in the life of the school with a strong emphasis on pupil participation in extra-curricular activities.  Baston has a strong tradition of choral singing and all pupils are encouraged to join one of the school choirs.  Instrumental ensembles, such as the recently formed Junior Recorder and Percussion Group, are also popular.  There are regular opportunities for all pupils to take part in Year Group Recitals and special events such as the Senior Carol Service held in St Mary’s Church, Hayes.

Pupils are encouraged to have individual instrumental and singing lessons, to take part in local music festivals and to work towards Associated Board practical exams.
