BASTON BULLETIN A fortnightly report of events in the School 18 May 2007
HELLO!! A WARM WELCOME to the two new girls who joined this week
We hope you will both enjoy your time at Baston!
. . . AND GOODBYE!! Good luck Today was Years 11’s last day in school before they start their study leave - their GCSE examinations will start next week. We celebrated their last day with a special luncheon for the girls and staff and we thanked them for their contribution to the school. We would like to wish them well in their forthcoming examinations.
DETLING TRIP Last Thursday Years 3 and 4 enjoyed a trip to the Kent Schools’ Farm Fair at Detling. The day was filled with a variety of activities from sheep-dog training, locally grown produce and recycling to cattle farming. The highlight of the day was the ‘Sheep Show’ where an ‘over-enthusiastic’ New Zealander introduced the different varieties of sheep from around the world and the show ended in the girls all performing a dance to their favourite music. There was also a chance for sausage and cheese tasting! The girls and teachers learnt a lot about the world of farming and luckily the rain stayed away! TIRESOME TESTS Some of our Pre-Junior and Junior girls will be heartily delighted to see the end of this week, as they will be able to say goodbye to Key Stage 1 and 2 tests. Mrs Higgins and Mrs Robson are both proud of the way their forms have tackled these nationally standardised assessments - the girls certainly deserve good results after all their hard work. Key Stage 1 results will be given out at the Parent Appointments on 28 June, whilst Key Stage 2 results normally arrive back from the markers just before PrizeGiving. JUNIOR MASTERCHEF 2007 Can it really be that time again? Years 5 and 6 Cookery Club members are now preparing their own selection of dishes in club sessions whilst being assessed on their cooking and organisational skills. If this week’s offerings are anything to go by, the choice of finalists is going to be extremely difficult! AN ADVENTUROUS WEEK AHEAD is planned next week for the girls in Years 5 and 6. They are setting off on Monday and will return on Friday 25 May. It promises to be a fun-packed week of adventure activities and a spot of ICT – let’s hope the weather improves! HOLA! Reminder about the Junior Spanish Club. It will be held each Monday AFTER half-term between 3.45 and 4.45pm. The sign-up sheet is now full! Gracias!! GARDENING CLUB The Junior gardeners have been showing their ‘greenfinger’ skills these past few weeks. They have planted Marigolds and sown a variety of vegetables ready for the summer and next term’s dinner plates! Look out for the runner beans - they have already started their race up the bean poles! Can you guess what vegetables the gardeners are actually growing? Please, please - if you have any surplus, unwanted plants we would be more than happy to take them off your hands. See Mrs Robson after the half term break - many thanks.
